The medieval village of Torri Superiore is a jewel of popular architecture situated in the foothills of the Ligurian Alps, a few kilometres from both the Mediterranean Sea and the French border, close to the coastal town of Ventimiglia. Dating from the 13th century, the village consists of three main buildings with over 160 vaulted rooms, all linked by an intricate labyrinth of stairways and terraces. Its complex and fascinating structure has been compared to a labyrinth or fortress, built on the side of the mountain. The village has been largely entirely restored and is now open to ecologically-minded visitors for workshops, courses, cultural and environmental education and also as guest accommodation. It is perfect for those interested in learning more about ecovillage living, or who would simply like a short break in beautiful surroundings. We have single, double and group rooms available and Torri is conveniently situated for local walking. All activity at Torri takes place within three inter-related and partially overlapping circles: The Torri Superiore Cultural Association, founded in 1989 to oversee the restoration of the medieval village and the creation of the ecovillage, cultural centre and resident community.
The Ture Nirvane Cooperative Company, founded in 1999, which manages our ecotourism and oversees the running of courses, workshops and other educational activities.
The resident community, made up of around 20 members, all living and sharing life in the village. Torri Superiore is situated between the Alps and the Mediterranean in western Liguria, northern Italy. Several languages are spoken here including Italian, German, English, Dutch and French. Responsible travellers who visit us will find that Torri provides ideal holiday accommodation and surroundings in which to relax, explore, enjoy and learn more about community living.
